Oscar party fare
Tonight, as you surely know, is the Academy Awards, and as per tradition, I will be attending Chris and Rick’s Oscar Extravaganza. Every year they have contests in various categories such as costume, theme food, and accuracy at predicting winners. My entry in the food category this year:
Reese Tastyspoons: “Baby, baby, baby”-sized portions of deliciousness
The idea is that I will have a whole bunch of spoons, each one of which will be filled with one of three combinations of ingredients for a one-bite treat. Each type is based around a mascarpone cream, flavored and accessorized in different ways.
- Amaretto cream with raspberries and garnished with shaved almonds
- Orange cream with chocolate ganache and a tiny wedge of puff pastry
- Vanilla cream with toasted pine nut and cayenne toffee
I’m excited about it. I hope they turn out cute and Denny takes their picture. My friend Alyssa is bring some sort of phyllo, cheese, and artichoke extravaganza, but she couldn’t think of a way to make it fit with the Oscars theme. I told her she should call it Joaquin Phyllo-nix and have it sit next to mine so they can be friends and co-stars at once.
