More Huckabee

In the “things I never thought I’d write” category:

It turns out Fox News, the president of the Catholic League and I all feel the same about that Huckabee ad.  I hadn’t noticed the “subliminal” cross, but now that I watch it again, it seems pretty blatant.
Here’s the story.

Thanks to map for pointing me to it.

They’re all disgusting to me these days but Huckabee is certainly among the most scurrilous of the bunch.

I live in Delaware. We’re so small that even when we’re one of the earlier states to vote, nobody really bothers to come here. I’m also a Democratic-leaning Independent. (Really “Decline To State”, but that option is not available here.)

I was never a serious supporter of Huckabee to begin with but quite a few things I’ve found out in the last couple of days have truly alarmed me about him.

He pushed to get a rapist paroled as “revenge” against Bill Clinton? What’s that about? His twelve years of sermons as a Baptist preacher are effectively classified as secret? He wrote a book lumping homosexuals and environmentalists (among others) together and saying they were all ruining America?

Absent evidence to the contrary, I’m taking it at face value that these stories are true. (Although I imagine they are at least slightly exaggerated.) I also assume it’s just the tip of the iceberg.

In this age of hyper scrutiny and instant communications, I don’t think there is any such thing as a snow white candidate — Bill Clinton certainly had his share of personal failings — but we each have to draw our own personal line somewhere. I won’t say exactly where mine is but I will say that Mike Huckabee has crossed way over it.
