On our own, briefly

Today is Denny’s first day back at work, though he’s only going half days for a while.  It’s a little scary, but we’re handling it okay.  We were bolstered by a couple of kind coworkers who brought delicious food.  I had brie, baguette, and an apple for lunch, which was a little better than the peanut butter sandwich I’d planned.

I also took the shortest shower in history while Miles chilled out in his bouncy seat.  I was sure he’d somehow bounce toward freedom during the 3 minutes I couldn’t hear him.  After I was done, I ran back out to check him, dripping wet.  Of course, he was lying there sleeping peacefully, just as I’d left him.

Yes, I am a first-time parent.

  1. That’s ok — perfectly normal, my wife and I have done that TONS. You get a better feel in awhile as to how they respond, how long you have before something becomes serious, etc., but yeah — scary at first!

You will get better, I promise! We all were like that at some point;)It is pretty scary in the beginning though isn’t it?

And before you know it, you’ll be trying to figure out how long you can reasonably leave him at the relatives’ before you’re reported to CPS. 😉

I just put the bouncy seat in the bathroom with me so I could peek out of the curtain every 30 seconds. A blanket and/or bobby pillow on the bathroom floor also worked well for me. I think Max liked staring at all the cool new stuff in the bathroom that he didn’t usually see.
By the way… we have another new baby!!! But I’m not sure I’m allowed to share any info., so I’m just going to leave this note here, and maybe you won’t see it until later.
We need to talk to you soon- we are anxious to know how things are going and to meet Miles! Love, Debi

At the beginning, we we’re always hovering over him when he slept to make sure we could hear him breathing. That continued for a good 12 months.

But the absolute scariest thing was the drive home from the hospital. It was about a 45 minute drive for us, out of downtown, and was the most anxious driving I have ever done.
