Miles eats rice cereal

After much hand-wringing, we gave Miles his first taste of solids last night.  It went pretty well.  Click below if you’re inclined to see 2 minutes of evidence.

I like how you new parents are still all concerned about cleaning up the kid during the meal. It’s so cute.

    Now for my questions…
    1) Did he sleep well that night?
I have heard rumors that if you feed the solids too soon they will actually sleep less well due to indigestion.
    2) did you mix it with Breast Milk?
    3) What is that Miles is sitting in? Where did it come from? ect. about the chair…

Ah! He’s so big. Is it possible he’s so old he’s eating solids already? Wow.
Pretty much the brightest two minutes of my day. Loved the expressions.

    Katy:

    1. He slept pretty much the same as normal. He’s been having some trouble lately due to a stuffy head (we think he has allergies), but his digestion seems fine.
    2. Yep, it was about 80% breastmilk and 20% cereal.
    3. That’s kind of a booster seat/high chair combo we got as a gift. It works really well, actually. It attaches to regular chairs and folds up pretty well to carry around.  I think it’s this one.
I was nervous about starting him on solids, but he’s almost 6 months now (about 5.5), and he was showing all the signs of being ready (wanting to nurse more often, grabbing at our food, able to sit with minimal support). We’re going to keep nursing, obviously, but he really seemed to take the spoon well and enjoy the experience.

Danny: Yeah, we’ll see how long that lasts. If it were just I, he’d get hosed down every couple of days and we’d call it good.

Crystal: Thanks! I always wonder if this is the kind of thing that’s only interesting to direct family members. I’m glad you enjoyed.

Thanks… Lucia has what I’m calling allergies right now too.

He looks like he’s doing pretty well for a first-timer! I love his facial expressions and eyebrow movements after you tell him about the wonders of cake. It looks like he’s wondering if it’s really possible that there is anything better than rice cereal. 🙂

It’s not a competition but Sydney had cake frosting on literally the very day she was born (we had a birthday party for her) and a teensy bit of mashed potatoes and gravy the day we brought her home from the hospital. She’ll be 13 this year.
