My parents are nice

I love you, Mom and Dad. Thanks for helping me feel less stressed out about the wedding.

Did you know that it’s almost morel season? I deeply, deeply love morel mushrooms. Here’s a picture of a man I don’t know with a giant morel. Denny’s lucky that the guy in the picture has stupid facial hair, because otherwise I might have to marry him instead, just to get at his morels!

Just kidding.

I’m glad you’re sticking with Mecial. Those huge morels aren’t very good eating, anyhow.

Hey, that’s a pretty cute guy holding that morel. I’ve never had one, but they look weird. I’m open to trying weird looking things. The spanish guy at work (Emilio) was very impressed that I ate octopus in Chicago – even a piece with the suckers. Frankly, I’m impressed, too. Sometimes I try to make Emilio say sentences with the word “process” in them because I like how his accent makes it sound like “prothess.” Also, his wife is pregnant and he wants a girl so she can be his “little printhess.”

BIG TIP. soak your morels in water to clean them, then save the water and pour it in your garden. the mushrooms let off their spores (or whatever) into the water if you soak them overnight. then next year you will have loads and gads of them growing in your yard.

Erin: Oh my lord, are you serious? That’s the greatest idea I’ve ever heard.

Emily: That’s very cute about the little printhess. Do you like mushrooms in general? Morels are delicious, but they’re pretty mushroomy, so whether or not you like them depends on your attitude toward mushrooms in general.

Well, I tell you what… I didn’t *used* to like mushrooms, but I eat them quite a bit now. I don’t like the slimy canned ones for sure, but I like fresh mushrooms. I don’t pop ’em like candy, but I like them in and on things.

we hit the motherload of morels last year near Luke’s hometown. I don’t know anywhere good to get them in Ames. They supposedly grow best on south facing hills with lots of oak trees. Luke’s grandpa is the Morel Whisperer. A couple years ago we got him this special morel-hunting bag that has holes in it so the spores can drop through and provide more morels for the next year. Also, in Iowa there are two kinds of morels, yellow and grey. I believe the yellow ones come out first and are a lot easier to find.
