Project Runway finale

Daniel V. and Santino got robbed.

I like Chloe ok as a designer overall, but I really didn’t like her Fashion Week collection nearly as much as Daniel’s and Santinos. This collection was the first time I would actually wear something Santino designed. It was really very beautiful, and Daniel’s work is always elegant and interesting.

Denny is having his wisdom teeth out next week. I’m going to make him strawberry milkshakes. Would strawberry seeds be dangerous on open mouth wounds? Should I strain the strawberry paste before I put it in the ice cream and milk? What are other good post-oral-surgery foods?

Pudding and Jell-O are always good post oral surgery and mashed potatoes as long as you make them smooth and don’t leave chunks.

Patients who have had teeth extracted should not drink anything through a straw…something about the suction.

Yep… I’m planning to provide all foods with spoons, not straws. That reminds me: his surgery is Friday the 17th, so I don’t know if that weekend will be very good for us to go to Dubuque. We may go for just a short visit on a weeknight some time before that.

    Thanks for the ideas, Melissa.

Ice cream is good…when I had mine out I ate nothing but Haagen-Dazs for a week. 😀

I’m sure you already know this…but the suction thing is so you don’t get a dry socket (when the healing tissue filling up the empty tooth socket is accidentally sucked out). They hurt!

Funny oral-surgery-food story…I had a dry socket after having my wisdom teeth out and at the post-op checkup, the surgeon stimulated the production of more healing tissue by stuffing this little piece of paper soaked in clove oil into the empty space where the tooth was. (Which also hurt.)

I asked the assisting nurse if I needed to eat or not eat certain things to let it heal…she said I needed to eat pork.

    Pork? I wondered out loud.

Because cloves are all you will be able to taste for a few days, she responded, and pork goes well with cloves.

I would definitely skip anything with small seeds in it.

I wasn’t rooting for Cloe BUT when her line came down it had the strongest point of view. I did really like Santion’s line. Time Gunn liked Santino’s the best (if you read his blog) but he didn’t want him to win because in his own words- he didn’t want the show to become, “Project Freakshow”. Did you see Kara’s line at Fashion Week? I think she would have won. Check out http://www.bravotv.com.

when i had my wisdome teeth pulled, the pain medication and antibiotic they gave me made me very nauseated. the first couple of days the only thing that would settle my stomach were soda crackers – i had to break little pieces off and just let them get soggy in my mouth. after that it was pudding, yogurt, tomato basil soup. i tried to eat mashed potatoes but they were too thick and hard to swallow because of the swelling.

Very gloom and doom in here. When I had my wisdom teeth out, I never took any of the pain medication they gave me (I did not end up needing it) and I ate pretty much normally after the first day. I did drool bloody on my pillow that night, though.

I also have a pleasant story. Getting my [four impacted] wisdom teeth out was pretty much the most awesome experience ever because of whatever drugs they gave me, and I even woke up in the middle to them banging on my tooth. Afterward, I didn’t take any pain meds, either; I was just annoyed by the cotton I had to keep in my mouth for a while. I think I ate applesauce.
