Labor, Delivery, and Beyond (not a domestic goods store)

We had a midwife appointment today, and after it was over (all is well; Bisquito is very wiggly) we took a tour of Labor & Delivery, and also the post-delivery family rooms.  They’re very nice.  They have big jacuzzi tubs, fridges, TVs with DVD players, computers (though I’m not sure if those are for our use or for the staff; doesn’t matter really since I’ll bring my laptop and they have wireless), and are generally quite pleasant.

The family rooms have double beds, so Denny can stay right there with Bisque and me.

It is weird that a nickname of a nickname of a nickname for my fetus is also a soup.

  1. I was kinda wondering where you got the “Bisquito” from. Now I know…Rachel Ray! 🙂 Heh.

Sounds much nicer there than the L&D in Mason City, who is *just* getting up to speed with such things like private rooms, etc. We had to sign a sheet that basically said, “Look, we’ll give you a private room if we have one, but if we have a rush and we’re up to our ankles in babies, you’re stuck.” Lovely.

No way! I don’t like Rachael Ray. I thought I invented that word. Dang.

  3. Actually, according to Urban Dictionary, it’s a nonsense word used for filler. I don’t know as though it’s very universal, though, so you probably still have time to patent it. 🙂

We delivered in one of those fancy rooms only a month or so after UIHC opened up their new-and-improved facility. I’ll tell you, I remember absolutely nothing about it. Leah labored in the tub for a while, but I was so excited and nervous, she could’ve been giving birth in a car wash for all I knew. And after 24 hours of labor, neither of us was paying much attention to the decor.

    Just sayin’.

Well, since no one else is asking, I guess I will: What don’t you like about R.R.?

  6. Aprille says:

Oh, I guess just her personality. I don’t like her cutesy phrases (doesn’t she say “Yummers!” or something?). She is overexposed and tiresome.

  7. R.R. is definitely a mood thing. Most of the time I’m tolerant as I think in general she’s sincere in her ways, but at times you have to wonder how someone can be that bubbly 24/7 without cracking a rib. I like to imagine that she gets home at night, kicks her shoes off, cracks a beer, and spends the rest of the evening sitting in a chair and watching L&O with a scowl on her face.

Well, she bugs the shit out of me. I can’t watch her for more than 30 seconds. She’s not on when I’m typically watching the telly in any case, thank Dog.

    Rachael Ray says “yummers”?

Hmm. Maybe I should stop saying it.

I’d like to point out that bisquito.com is available for registration, if you’re interested. You should get Denny on this.
