So...I went to France. Weird, huh? Yeah, I never would have expected it either, but my friend Mose lives in Paris, and he invited me to come visit, and the next thing you know...

Major Event 1: St. Malo Shortly after I arrived, we got on a train and went to St. Malo, a small town in Brittany by the ocean. The town was very charming--kind of touristy, but still pretty and relaxing. It was a good place to sleep off my jet lag.

I ate so many mussels. And what this picture doesn't show is that I'd eaten a huge plate of prawns right before the mussels. So rad.
Mose and I went to a little bar that specialized in homemade, flavored rum. He got honey flavored and I got vanilla. They were served to us in shot glasses, then all the locals laughed at us when we tossed them back. Apparently you're supposed to sip it. Well, why do they serve it in shot glassees, then?

We went to the ocean. Mose was very stern.
St. Malo is a nice old walled city. It was fun to walk around on the ramparts.
Major Event 2: Apple Expo Paris
My trip, purely by coincidence, ended up being at the same time as the 2003 Apple Expo Paris. I went. It was so cool. There were two entrances: one for people with badges and one for people without. Do you know which kind I was? Click image at left to find out.

Oooh...Panther...

Oooh...European iPod...
Major Event 3: Touristy stuff in Paris Mose had to work some of the time, so I took the opportunity to wander around Paris doing touristy stuff, such as seeing the Basilique Sacre-Coeur... (right)

...and the Louvre...

...and Notre Dame...

...and the Arc de Triomphe...

...and the Picasso museum
Major Event 4: Deadies abound
I went to the Pere Lachaise cemetary, where a whole bunch of famous people are buried (including dumb Jim Morrison). What was more interesting, though, were the non-famous gravestones and sculptures, like the Holocaust memorial at left.

Sad-looking statues

Old crumbly gravestones

Modern-type gravestones

Oscar Wilde's grave had lip prints all over it.
We went to the catacombs, which were kind of scary and very interesting. Apparently the cemeteries got too full, so they moved tons and tons of skulls and femurs and stuff to these tunnels.
Skulls!

Skulls and femurs and Mose
Major Event 5: Fun with wacky Europeans
I met some cool people, such as Mose's wild Portuguese friend Pipo (at left) and some Spanish and Corsican guys.

The Spanish/Corsican contingent

This guy was dangling out a window, wearing a corset. I don't know why.
