Exciting Norway plans

Hi there.  Please excuse any disruption in service or general weirdnesss on the site for the next couple of days.  I’m transferring to a different hosting service and still getting the kinks worked out.

I’ve been doing a lot of research on Norway over the last couple of days.  I’m really excited about it now that it’s a reality.  I was being careful not to get my hopes up, since it was looking so expensive that we might not be able to go, but now that it’s suddenly affordable and the tickets are purchased, I’m going crazy with delight.  We’ve been reading about all kinds of cool things to do.  Here is a very, very tentative agenda, subject to change if we have better ideas.

  • Wednesday, August 2:  AC flies from Toronto (unrelated conference site) to Chicago, meets DC there.
  • Wednesday, August 2:  We fly from Chicago to Stockholm, Sweden
  • Thursday, August 3:  We arrive in Stockholm and connect to Oslo, where we spend the night in order to recover from the journey.
  • Friday, August 4:  Make our way to Tysnes, which is an island off the southwest coast near Bergen.  We’ll stay there for a couple of days and enjoy wedding festivities.
  • Sunday, August 6-Wednesday, August 9:  Spend some time in Bergen.  Denny found some cool short-term apartment rentals that are reasonably priced and look nice.
  • Wednesday, August 9:  Take off on the “Norway in a Nutshell” trip, which is a multi-leg journey through the mountains and fjords that promises some spectacular scenery.  We hope to spend a day or two in FlÃ¥m, a fjordy village.
  • Friday, August 11:  Arrive back in Oslo; spend the night there.
  • Saturday, August 12:  Fly back to the states.

It always seems like it will go by so fast when I write it out like that.  In fact, I get a genuine little sadness in my heart when I make the bullet item about coming back.  Dorquísimo, I know.
