Things I wonder about

* Why do people (read: Geraldo) get mad at John Stewart and the Daily Show for not being “real news”?  When have they ever purported to be real news?  That’s like getting mad at a pair of roller skates for not being good for walking on snow.  It’s an entertainment show that just happens to be astute.  Emphasis on the tute!
* How come sometimes I’m thirsty, but I have to go to the bathroom at the same time?  Either my body has too much water or not enough; why can’t it decide?

* In the movie Gremlins, when they weren’t supposed to eat after midnight, how did they decide when the next day began?  Sunrise?  It was never explained, and it’s always after midnight one way or another.

Well, even more than that is the fact that it’s Geraldo giving this criticism. Freaking GERALDO! “Al Capone’s Vault,” anyone? Please.

Oh, and on the Gremlins thing, they couldn’t be out in the sun, right? So I always assumed they had between 12 a.m. and daylight to do their nasty business. What a great movie. Better or worse than the following year’s The Goonies? You decide.

Also, I am now having a Phoebe Cates flashback moment, for which I thank you.

I have to vote for The Goonies. Gremlins was good, but Goonies had the advantage of seeming almost-maybe-could-it-be possible, which fed the hearts and minds for a generation of adventure-seeking kids.

I think that Chunk-playing actor was really good. Did he ever do anything else, I wonder? A lot of the cast went on to success (that hobbit dude, Josh Brolin, Martha Plimpton, the kid who always plays the Asian nerd, that dude who was in Memento), but I don’t remember ever seeing Chunk again.
