Squishy sleepy baby

Yes, Miles stuff is going to go private soon, but that’s a lot of work for two people running on very little sleep.  I wanted to share a couple of pictures.

We’re home from the hospital now, because his bilirubins seem to be on their way down.  He’s also much improved in the breastfeeding department, which is awesome, because it was getting kind of outrageous to do everything we had to do to finger-feed him pumped breastmilk.

He’s sleepy during the day, and at night, when he’s all awake and wild, I’m in no mood to take pictures.  So for now, you get sleepy pics.

I recognize the pursed mouth in some of your self-portraits! I can’t remember which ones.

    He’s yo’ baby, all right.

    Felicitaciones!

I knew I’d have to go back and find one. In the self-portrait from December 17, you have Miles’s mouth!

De-lurking here;) I have been reading for a while and REALLY enjoy your blog and style of writing. I wanted to de-lurk to say Hey and HUGE Congrats on your new little baby boy!! I have a son and he just yesterday, turned two!? Enjoy it all you can, b/c it goes by WAY TOO FAST! And having a boy ROCKS;)

He is so absolutely beautiful. Isn’t it amazing to see such a perfect little baby after all that time. I am so glad the breastfeeding is getting better. That will be so much better for him. God Bless!

J and I agreed on this, he does have your mouth…and Denny’s nose?? What a beautiful baby. Bonny lad!

    Congratulations!

I remember being told that before being born, babies are lulled to sleep by their mother’s moving around during the day. And that when the mothers stop moving (i.e. go to sleep), the babies perk up. And it takes them a while to undo those patterns after they are born.

That was true for us, at any rate. Someone told me that babies are like vampires–they come out when the sun goes down. And it felt like that for a while. Once 8:00 p.m. hit, the ultimate goal was to survive through to 8:00 a.m.

    Good luck!

  7. Ditto on nighttime being the party time, but it sucks, definitely. Nothing quite like baby being happy and awake and ready to dance when all your body and brain are saying is, “Sleeeeeeeeeep! For the love of God, SLEEEEEEEEP!!!” It’ll get better in time, I promise, both with baby doing better at night and your brain figuring out how to pass out quickly and pop awake in an instant. Until then you’ll do one of those things where you wake up and put the alarm clock to your ear when the phone rings, even though you can’t feel the right side of your body because you slept on it wrong. Good luck!

Another de-lurking lurker here. I stumbled upon your blog via a friend’s link and very much enjoy your stories, pictures, and recipes. Miles is a beautiful baby, truly. Congratulations to you and Denny!

I’ll join the de-lurkers. 🙂 I know Denny from years ago, and think I met you, Aprille, once at Trivia (probably 2003 or 2004) when I was still dating Jason. I occasionally check Denny’s blog for photography, and found your blog through his. I have enjoyed reading your witty entries, browsing your culinary and photographic adventures, and following you and Denny on your journey toward parenthood. It seems like everyone I know is having babies these days… My husband (who is starting his own robotics company) and I (who am in the final angst of my PhD) are at least 1 real income away from being ready for a baby, so I have drawn vicarious pleasure through your stories. I am so happy for you and Denny; Miles is a lucky little boy! I wish you all the best!

Thank you for sharing these photos with us all.

Here’s hoping you find a few precious hours of that coveted thing called sleep soon.

¡Felicidades! We just got back from Mexico and heard the news. Miles is beautiful. We’re coming to Iowa City in February for Leah’s B-Day, so we’ll have to stop by and meet him (and catch up with you).

  13. Claudia says:

Thanks for sharing these photos with all of us.
So good that Miles is better now and back home.
Hope you get some sleep soon.

  14. Daniel says:

I can really understand how you feel! The first time is what really makes you feel bad, but believe me, only one single laugh of your baby will make you forget whatever (stressful) happend before.

Congrats again. A very cute baby!

PS: to get sleep isn´t everything 😉 2 hours a night? No problem 😉 See you.

  15. Kate Crall says:

    He’s beautiful (:

  16. Leah says:

Congrats, Aprille and Denny. He’s just darling. What a little love muffin! Did Mark ever tell you that “Miles” was one of our top two boys’ names–if Ava had been a boy? I loved the name and still do!

Hang in there. These first few months are really, really hard, and no one ever seems to tell you that. It gets easier–and the love makes it all worth it.

    Take care,
    Leah
