Testing embedded Flickr video

I’m thinking about not posting Quicktime videos anymore, in part because it will make it easier for my non-Mac friends (the poor souls) to view them, plus for reasons unbeknownst to me the iPhone doesn’t seem to support Quicktime.  Go figure.

Anyway, whatever Flickr does to its Flash video in the conversion process does render it browser- and OS-agnostic, as well as mobile-friendly.  The only problem is that sometimes embedding things in WordPress turns into a giant mess.  Let’s try it, brave pioneers.

UPDATE:  embed attempts = FAIL.  I’ll have to look around for a WordPress plugin like I found for Quicktime.  Suggestions welcome.

I’ll be following your efforts closely. Shame it doesn’t “just work.”

I’ve been pretty happy with Vipers Video Quicktags. It supports a good number of online video streaming sites (Flickr included) as well as local video uploads.

Damn my stupid human memory. Flickr video worked fine in this post on my WP blog last year:

Looks like I just grabbed the code from Flickr and stuck it between two “center” tags.

  4. Uhm…is there a good reason to not upload the videos to YouTube and just embed them from there to here? Always worked well for me, and there’s a ton of plugins for WP for it.

youtube…im sure you thought of that. i assume you dont like it because its very public. vimeo? i havent used it but luke has. i think it has more options for privacy and sharing than youtube. and why do i keep wanting to type youtuve?

I have used Vimeo, and I like pretty well except that it seems to take a long time process. I like Flickr because I use it anyway, so it would be less duplication of effort to just use the same code that gets generated there.

Scott, I think I have Viper’s Video Quicktags that I use for Quicktime; I recall also seeing YouTube and Google Video there. Maybe there are updates that contain Flickr.

So, is your blog set up @ Flickr? Have you tried blogging a video (or an image) straight from the Flickr “share this” link? I wonder if that would work…. Worth a shot, at least, for testing purposes.
